Memphis 59: Song of the week

This weeks honor goes to Memphis 59, a Washington DC based band that asked us to make t-shirts for them. Check out the Guys Memphis 59 shirt and the Girls Memphis 59 shirt here. They're pretty cool and we're glad we teamed up with them. They put on a great show, if you're in DC you should check em out. In the meantime, here's one of their best known songs: Me myself and eyes.

Timbaland ft. SoShy - Morning After Dark (song of the week)

Timbo needs no introduction. My favorite producer hands down. His album is set to release November 23rd. The beat is tight, the chorus is sick. He runs away with this weeks honors without competition.

Chicane - Poppiholla (Song of the Week)

Yom Kippur, the holiday that caused song of the week to appear on Wednesday, is a time for reflection and forgiveness. This week's song deserves the award because of its beautiful melody and its artistic and layered music video.

The video features a black man walking through a white, suburban neighborhood, raising everyone's unwarranted suspicion, and plays with our preconceived notions as well. The climax of the video leaves the viewer feeling a bit guilty.

Poppiholla's video is black and white to contrast our world around us. Not everything in life is black or white and not everyone fits into a particular box, we are all made up of different characteristics making us all unique.

The song Poppiholla sampled the song Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros, only changing the H and P to create the word Pop. It's a soothing song that contains elements of a relaxing and progressive style.

Have a good week and meaningful week,

Barry Jay - Infused (Song of the Week)

Barry Jay receives his first Song of the Week award and we'll make sure Kanye doesn't interrupt him during his speech. This song gets the nod because it combines elements of progressive electronic music as well as electro house. Don't sit back and relax to this song. Go out, pregame, and start your night off with some pump up music.

Have a good week,

Kid Cudi - Simple As... (Song of the Week)

Kid Cudi is a G. "Man on the Moon: The End of Day", Cudi's new album (dropping September 15th), has potential to be the top album of the year. This is the first time in a while that I have listened to an album and liked every song on it.

Kid Cudi is what you would get if Cee-Lo and Kanye decided to have a child. Kid Cudi's beats, reminiscent of Kanye's best work, incorporate real instruments with a great melody. His voice is graceful and soothing, and, like Cee-Lo, he manages to harmoniously sing while rapping.

In this song, "Simple As...", you hear ABC in one ear and 123 in the other with tight drums added on top. Kid Cudi has just become one of my favorite rap artists alongside Cee-Lo and Timbo. Thanks.

The album is being released next week, and here is a sample of all the songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuiJX5-Jddg&feature=related&fmt=18

Have a great week,

MGMT vs. Notorious BIG - Nasty Feel (Song of the Week)

We have a thing for Biggie mashups. The first song of the week ever was "Party and Bullshit" by Ratatat ft. Biggie's vocals. This week, courtesy of Ddpesh, Biggie vocals from Nasty Feel and mashed it up with Justice's remix of MGMT's "Electric Feel". Sounds pretty freakin tight. Mondays suck, and we're trying to help cure your "Case of the Monday's."

Example - Watch The Sun Come Up (Song of the Week)

Besides the song being great, summer is winding down and we need to glorify it as much as we can. I mean, who doesn't love summer! Nice weather, beach, girls in sundresses, what's not to like? This song talks about people getting giddy happy, "There's something about sunsets and beaches though that make you think you're in love - when you're probably not". While the last part can be taken negatively, it just shows how the sun brings out the happiness in everyone. You're task: Before summer is over, watch the sunrise.

Have a great week!
And for those kids going back to college, don't party to hard before classes start.

P.S. This is another one of those songs I've been watching for a while and it finally released a video. The song will be released September 21st. In addition, there have been at least 5 remixes made for the song.

A bonus P.S. A T-Shirt that signifies the beach and summer --

Kid Cudi - Embrace the Martians (ft. Crookers) (Song of the Week)

Kid Cudi gained his fame through entourage, debuting his hit "Day N Night" on Episode 10, Season 5. Crookers then took that beat and made a remix for the ages. Cudi used that fame to discuss issues close to his heart, like embracing martians. It's deep kids. Kid Cudi and Crookers put up this banging song respecting the martians.

P.S. watch out for Cudi's new song with David Guetta titled "Memories"

DJ Shnooms Song of the Week

Wale, not to be confused with the robot Wall-E, is a new rapper coming out of the DC metropolitan area. Not many rappers come out from this area and the last song written about this area wasn't successful, "Put you in My Pocket". Sampling "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" and repping DC, Wale earns the "Song of the Week" award with his song "Chillin"

DJ Shnooms Song of the Week

Today has been great. I woke up, walked outside and it was a beautiful day. The sun was shining with a bit of breeze. Perfect pool weather. After I got outside, I hung out with my friends and am now heading to the pool.
To make this day even brighter, this week's Song of the Week goes to an upbeat Michael Franti song

We realize that since Michael Jackson's passing every single one of our blog posts has been about the King of Pop. So why change a good thing?

This week's song of the week is a remix of the Jackson 5 "I want you back" song by Ztrip. The video reminds us of how cute, innocent and adorable Michael was before the media ripped into him.

DJ Shnooms song of the week

The great thing about Michael Jackson is that his songs transcended genres, generations and all other boundaries. From ABC to Thriller to Bad to Black and White, Michael produced wholly different types of music--and it was all awesome. Here's a remix we found to "Bad" by David Guetta. The video is great cause its a medley of Michael's moves. Enjoy.

DJ Shnooms song of the week

This week we go international with a band called "The Idan Raichel Project." Check out their myspace page at www.myspace.com/theidanraichelproject. They've got a great sound and they blend Israeli, Ethiopian and other worldly music sounds together.

This song in in Hebrew so I'll translate a bit of it for you--as its very beautiful. The song, titled Mimamakim, means "Out of the depths I called out to you."

Thats a picture of me and Idan Raichel--at an Israel bonds dinner--last week.

DJ Shnooms song of the week

So this week's song is actually not a DJ Shnooms recommendation. We just got this emailed in from my friend Annie. She said everytime she hears this song she thinks of us. The songs about the dance, "the Crooked Booty." So everybody do the Crooked Booty. I don't' really like this song, but it's got a good message.

DJ Shnooms Song of the Week

Hello music lovers. My brother's favorite DJ David Guetta performed Sunday night at Fur Nightclub in DC. We went with a few friends and it was a fantastic night. He's a great performer. He debuted a song that Noam posted here 5 weeks ago called, "When love takes over." The place erupted. Nice work Noam.

This week's song is Black Eyed peas newest release, called "I got a feeling." It's produced by David Guetta, so it's got that electronic feel. Enjoy it.

DJ Shnooms Song of the Week/Happy Mother's Day

This week's song is in honor of Mother's Day. The name of the song "Lost", is how we would be without our mothers. So go call them and thank them for carrying you around for 9 months--sacrificing alcohol, Tuna, and trampolines. And then thank them for looking after you when you didn't even know how to walk.

DJ Shnooms Song of the Week

This weeks installment of "Dj Shnooms Song of the week" is quite appropriate for our new president. The group, called "The New Deal," is a reference to FDR's New Deal program--something that pundits say Obama should emulate.

Enjoy.
